The short version of who is typing
My name is Ryan George, and I write the guides here the way I would talk a friend through their first night in a new squad: calmly, with a few jokes, and with the boring useful bits kept in. I play shooters for fun and take notes because I forget what I learned by the next session.
That habit is the whole blog. If a callout saved us a round, it goes in a post. If a loadout fell apart in the first firefight, that goes in too, usually with a small apology to whoever was carrying me that evening.
What I actually play
Most of my hours go to ARC Raiders, Overwatch, Warzone, Destiny 2 and Escape from Tarkov. They could hardly be more different, and that is exactly why I like writing about them side by side. Overwatch teaches you to talk in short clips. Tarkov teaches you to stop talking altogether when a door creaks.
Destiny 2 was where this site began, and it still gets regular space. Warzone is where I practise staying calm when the circle shrinks. ARC Raiders is the one that keeps surprising me, mostly because my plans last about ninety seconds.
How I write the posts
- I play the thing first, then write, never the other way round.
- I say plainly when I was wrong or when a patch changed my mind.
- I keep advice to what a normal squad can do on a weeknight.
- I try to end every post with one small habit you can test tonight.
Setup habits, since people ask
I play with a headset, keep game volume lower than feels heroic, and leave the voice channel a little louder than the footsteps. I turn off anything that pings me mid-match. Before a session I decide who calls targets and who handles the map, because two shot-callers is just an argument with extra steps.
I also keep a scrappy notes file open on another screen. It holds half-sentences like "check the left stairwell, always" and, more often than I admit, "stop sprinting into rooms." Those scraps turn into posts.
Say hello
If a post helped, or you think I got something badly wrong, write to info@whensallymetsally.co.uk. I read everything, and a good correction gets fixed with credit.
